Collection of Charges

There is a common misconception that parking charges on private land are unenforceable and illegal. Internet Forums such as CAG, Pepipoo and Money Saving Expert are full of advice to ignore parking tickets etc. Unfortunately many people believe these forums and heed, to their peril, this erroneous advice.

Once parked on private land you enter a contract with the landowner or their agent. This contract, displayed on signs, is legally enforceable. Sadly it is sometimes necessary for UKCPS to go to the County Court to enforce the contract. The following list of judgements, with PDF's of the judge's ruling, clearly illustrate the foolishness of following forum advice. All these cases were defended and many had full defences provided by the 'parking experts' from the forums.'

The above are a small selection of recent successful cases. They clearly illustrate it is much better to pay parking charges rather than ignore them in the hope that they will go away or that they are not legally enforceable.

Internet forums frequently advice people to ignore parking charges and the subsequent reminder mailings. Just like any invoice for any service you make use of (such as a disabled parking space without a disabled badge) the parking charge is a debt which is enforceable.
